The mission of Christel House is to help children around the world 

break the cycle of poverty and become 

self-sufficient, contributing members of their societies.   

Every child deserves the opportunity to build a full and rewarding life. At Christel House, we maximize human potential. We open doors, support aspirations and awaken dreams - one child at a time.

In order to achieve our mission, Christel House requires a holistic and comprehensive approach to child development and often implementing changes to existing social conventions and educational practices.  Our mission is put to work through the Christel House Programs and Services which include:

Quality Education
Regular Health Care
Life Skills and Character Development
Nutritional Meals and Snacks
Community Outreach Programs
Vocational Training

Currently, nearly 2,500 children at non-residential learning centers in five countries – India, Mexico, South Africa, Venezuela, and the U.S. – benefit daily from these programs.

Indianapolis businesswoman and philanthropist Christel DeHaan founded the charity in 1998 and contributes all general and administrative costs.  This makes it possible for 100% of all donations to fund programs and services directly benefiting the children of Christel House.
